Ealing Council Hit Their Cyclists In The Wallet, And Totally Snub Their Complaints

Ealing council have now stabbed their cyclists in the back.

The council has double the rents of their on street cycle parking hangers.

The Council introduced the bike hangars in September 2014, to meet the demand for secure residential cycle parking. Bike hangars are apparently for residents who do not have a space at home to store their bikes. They were at first, supposed to be just half the length of a parking bay and can store up to six bikes. But in many locations two hangers have been placed next to each other.

After subsidising the cost of renting, the council has suddenly doubled the rent from  £36pa to £72pa. The reason being (according to the council), is they can no longer afford the subsidy towards the cost of renting a space.

The price of a subscription will change on the 1st of February 2021. What this means to cyclists is that when they next pay their annual fee, the rent will have doubled to £72.

In a snub to complaints from the cyclists, the council said that should they wish to cancel renting a pod space due to the increase, then they need inform the council before their subscription renewal is due, so they can give further instructions on how to cancel.

They go on to say, if you don’t know when your renewal date is, then contact the council and they will advise you.

Many cyclist who rent pod spaces feel as if they’ve been completely let down after supporting the council in all the arguments and consultations about low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs).

TAXI LEAKS EXTRA BIT:

It is now feared that the cyclist will rebel and refuse to pay for the pod spaces en masse, leaving the pods empty in the streets, with the council getting no revenue at all from them

Another complete waste of council tax money on a system, badly planned and badly implemented.

Good why should cyclists be subsidised to park the bikes in the hangers on the cheap I don't get no subsidy to patk my car. They are taking up car spaces that are over a hundred pounds a year. We are also subject to increases year on year.
Its a reality check for those smug in your face lycra clad Chris frume/ Laura Trott wannabees. If we all changed from cares to bikes they would still find ways to rinse us dry. Eventually there will be no financial difference between cars and bikes wait and see.
When bikes have to be chipped insured and licensed they will realise all that glitters is not gold.
