Did you know that our printed receipts are covered in a chemical (BPA) that is dangerous if released into the atmosphere and should never be put in with recyclables !!!
BPA stands for bisphenol A. BPA is an industrial chemical that is used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s.
BPA is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are often used in containers that store food and beverages, such as water bottles.
Most tin cans cannot be directly recycled as they are coated on the inside with a thin layer of plastic containing BPA. The cans are heat treated which turns the BPA into a glass which is then dispersed into the atmosphere.
It’s also alleged that a similar chemical reaction takes place in the producing of receipts issued by a thermal printer.
Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects of BPA on the brain and prostate gland, infants and children. It can also affect children's behavior.
Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure.
How many Taxi drivers do you know, are on blood pressure treatment ???
As far as we know, TfL have carried out no impact assessment into the possible affect on drivers health with thermal printers fitted inside the drivers compartment.
Why haven’t Khan and TfL sorted out a more environmentally friendly system ???
They have known about this problem since 2019.
Recycling centres know about the danger of processing articles containing BPA and have taken measures to remove articles containing this chemical
For this reason you should no longer crush empty tins and cans when discarding into the recycle bins as they become unrecognisable by the system set up.
TAXI LEAKS EXTRA BIT:
Again, the answer is very simple.
Most CC receipt printers are programmed not to issue a printed receipt (unless asked for) with contactless payments.
It’s is therefore legal not to issue a receipt with every credit or debit card transaction.
Is it time to remove printers from the close confines of the Taxi???
If a customer wants a receipt, they could be given a written one , ( which a surprising number if customers ask for in addition to their printed receipts.
