London Taxi Drivers Charity for Children Support Food Bank

As the surge in demand for food banks increases during the COVID-19 lockdown, the London Taxi Drivers Charity for Children has stepped in to help a food bank in North London

With families being made, or facing redundancy or furlough during the pandemic the demand for help from food banks is increasing dramatically and the London Taxi Drivers Charity for Children (LTCFC) has responded by making a £500 donation of essential provisions, to a food bank in North Finchley.

The food bank based in St Barnabas Church, opened in early May, and initially offered help to 45 families facing food poverty.

When the LTCFC learnt that demand for help from the food bank had increased by over 600%, they knew they had to help and offered a donation of £500 to provide emergency supplies, specifically for families with children.

Sim Yiannikaris, Appeals Officer, The London Taxi Drivers Charity for Children, said, “During lockdown we wanted to find a way to make an immediate and positive impact to a project supporting families with children.

When a neighbour posted about St. Barnabas Church starting a food bank for emergency supplies for families in need, we knew that this was something that The London Taxi Drivers Charity for Children could help with.”

London Cabbies and LTCFC volunteers, Sim Yiannikaris and Steve Bell went shopping on Saturday 13 June and filled their London taxis with provisions worth £500 which were delivered to St Barnabas the same day.
