Ever wondered why TfL have made no effort to ban or regulate rickshaws in London, even though their driving skills are practically nonexistent, the fact they they creat obstacle courses on central London pavements, doesn’t seem to phase TfL, Locke councils or the police.
No enforcement against the touting or the fact that most are now illegally electrically propelled, with speeds way exceeding the speed limits all over the capital. Blind eyes are turned and it’s about to get much worse.
If everything goes as planned, Made-in-Gujarat electric rickshaws will soon be ferrying passengers on the streets of London.
Rajkot based Atul Limited, the maker of diesel three-wheeler “Chhakdo” or as we know it Tuc-Tuc...have received green signals to market its lithium-ion operated e-rickshaw in the United Kingdom.
Allegedly, Atul has fulfilled all the requisite conditions laid by the UK government.
“Once we are ready with our new product, it will be sold not only in India but also in UK,” says Jayanti Chandra, CMD, Atul Auto.
The company is planning to introduce lithium-ion battery operate e-rickshaw into London in the next 9-12 months.
It will be very interesting to check the directors of the companies that will by hiring out these vehicles onto London’s streets!
How long before you find yourself in your £67,000 LEVC TXe, sat behind one of these contraptions waiting to get onto a street charger???
