What an absolute liberty from Westminster City Council.
A friend of mine who driver the new LEVC TXe, has been charged the 50% diesel surcharge
Westminster City Council has informed Danny Hussey that their 50% 'Diesel Surcharge' on parking (including Taxi rest ranks) not only applies to ULEZ exempt London Taxis, but also the £65k LEVC Taxi "because it is a hybrid".
This cannot be right.
Look on both the signage plates above, there is no mention of a surcharge... so therefore we believe that Westminster have acted illegally.
If Westminster are allowed to get away with this, it’s just a matter of time before the surcharge appears in other boroughs.
This isn’t about cleaner streets, air quality, or pollution control... this is just another cash cow aimed at people with no alternative.
Taxi drivers are paying £65k to driver a vehicle that’s been forced on them by the Mayor and TfL and now Westminster are using the fact the vehicle has a small petrol generator to over charge the driver using a Taxi rest rank by 50%
We are now waiting to see what our three orgs and two unions have to say about this travesty.
But we won’t be holding our breath!!!

But it's not a 'Hybrid' and for Westminster Council to refer to it as such is factually incorrect.
Both TfL and LEVC vehemently deny this cab is a hybrid, but a range extended electric vehicle.
Maybe that will help your friend?
What's happening with the authorities regarding London licensed taxi drivers & their attitude towards them? It can only be described as despicable, the way they have & are treating the trade in recent years. Is it that all the local London councils know the majority of the population despise them but on the other hand have a respect & liking of the licensed taxi trade? It's a terrible thing is jealousy & it leads to all sorts of actions, whenever it rears its ugly head! This must be the only reason these problems are increasing as why else would it be a constant persecution of drivers, going about their lawful trade. Whereas, these same characters go out of their way to 'butter up' all those who act illegally and never act upon them ......i.e the well known transport app & the Bridge scammers fleecing tourist's out of money, alongside the rickshaws (most motorised - illegal). So why aren't these individuals meted out similar treatment.......... answers on a postcard!
Also, in respect of Mr Hussey's ticket for being termed a 'diesel' vehicle. I am not legally experienced in such matters but it does seem as if he has a valid case for reimbursement, of the extra 50p charge. Firstly, if indeed the wording on the signage didn't state or warn this & secondly as, Hybrid or not, the vehicle he drives isn't in any shape or form diesel propelled. Therefore, if all the aforementioned is correct and true, then I believe Mr Hussey has a valid claim for repayment of the 50p & maybe compensation for his time dealing with this? Good luck.
